anybody know where i can get a reasonable size radio to communicate to people. My plan is to run into the mountains in my area is something goes on. The only way they will get me out would be with artillary or air support. No tank would be able to get up, and no infantry company would be able to get to where i plan to stay. I plan on getting a seperate bag to keep water and food in so i can stay up there a long time until i have to go for animals.

My bad, I only read folding shovel...Well here in Florida you would need some sun bock lotion, otherwise you will be walking around with a sunburn...and you could also get a collapsable fishing pole, they work pretty well and are really easy to carry when callapsed.

Well, you could get rid of the bugspray and the lantern and get a propane lantern that repels bugs...just a suggestion, though then you would need to carry a small propane tank and you may still get bit by bugs if you go somewhere far from the propane lantern.

If you do have a spot planned out that's your bug out hole, you could always pre-stock it. If you do decide lantern with propane put a couple of the small tanks up there and bury 4 feet down. Set up a little cache of supplies that just in case SHTF when you dont have your bag you can run there and be set for a bit before having to go out and get more.

Zippo with no extra fuel? Fuel evaporates in zippos only after a week or so even in storage. A first aid kit would be good too

No kidding... I cannot believe I didnt think of a first aid kit to recomend...mabey some hand sanitieser too, though that may fall under "Personall Hygine Stuff".

To answer your question about the radio that no one answered : http://www.discounttwo-wayradio.com/handhe...CFQYdswod6AYtig I dont know how long range they would be but there is a huge selection.

I dont know if you plan on taking a firearm with you, but if you did, then I would recommend extra ammo.

You have all that stuff (including NVG's and thermals) and you're not even 18? I wish I had your parents!

What I carry in my BOB which is a medium size messenger bag is the following:

-OQO palmtop computer with DC power cord and spare battery (contains important documents and entertainment/communications potential)
-Weather resistant notepad
-Grease pencil
-Ballpoint pen
-Standard #2 pencil
-Sharpie marker
-3 yards of duct tape sans donut
-Roll of electrical tape
-1 Box Ball point 9mm ammo (50 rds)
-1 Box JHP 9mm ammo (50 rds)
-2 boxes 00 Buck shotgun shells (10rds total)
-1 box .22LR ammo (50rds)
-Small 7X monocular
-Flashlight with red/green as well as normal white capability and a spare 12-pack of batteries for it
-Large and small bic lighter and set of weather resistant matches

My sidearm is on my hip at all times, minus sleeping/showering. And the long guns are slinged onto my back whichever would be easier to get to at the moment. I am a true believer in that your sidearm is used to fight back to your long gun. And all that stuff might weigh me down an extra 20 lbs or so. The bulkier items are in my truck which include:

-Large first aid kit with OTC medication and insect repellant
-Space blankets (4)
-Folding shovel
-Rope/tow kit (including spare wheel/tire)
-Spare 5 Gallon gas tank
