CRKT M16-14M Military Knife

Designed By Kit Carson

$56.95 on KnifeXX

Quick Summary: I have found this knife very nice quality. Much nicer than any other of the folders I have owned. Very sharp and maintains the Factory sharpness nicely. The build quality is Great! I would suggest this to anyone. It opens fast and smoothly with the Carson Flipper. They have 2 other versions of this knife, the CRKT M16-12M and CRKT M16-13M

The Build: The Handle is made of 6061 T6 aluminum. It said that the Handle came in Olive Drab Green. However mine came simply as Grey. It feels great when your holding it, Very comfortable. The Blade is Black titanium nitride coated. The blade wobbled a little back and forth when i received it but I was able to fix that by adjusting the blade pivot screw.

Opening: Easy to open, Uses Teflon Bearings. So every now and then you will probably want to put some lube on it so it cleans/keeps it going smoothly. It has a thumb nub on both sides for left and right handed users, but if you ask me they are too close to the handle so I usually just use the Carson Flipper. The Carson Flipper is what mainly influenced me into buying it. I'm staring to see more of them on knives when I go to sporting goods stores. This addition to the knife along with the addition of the smooth opening Teflon bearings make it a fast and easy one hand opener. The Carson Flipper also acts as a hand guard while open.

Closing:While it's open it has the Auto Lawks System. Meaning that in order to push the liner lock aside you must first push a lever forward in order to push it over to allow the blade to close. It has been on many websites advertising that this knife is a "Virtual fixed blade" when opened. It takes a little getting used to in order to close it with one hand because of this, but I don't see a problem with it. Others may complain about it getting tedious after time though.

Blade: It comes in Black titanium nitride coated as noted above. The blade is partially serrated and EXTREMELY sharp. I cannot emphasize the factory sharpness enough. The serrations have made me bleed countless times just by clipping my finger slightly upon closing. So this knife is not one to toy around with. It can easily chop a tree with a 1in diameter down under a minute and that is without pounding on the back of it with a rock. It's a dual grind Tanto blade. The blade itself is made out of AUS 8 stainless steel. The logos on it include The CRKT logo with the text next to it, model, and patent on one side. The other side has the "One Ass To Kick" Logo, "MIL" and "High Risk Environment" imprinted on it.

Also as for the shipping from KnifeXX It was only $4.95. I ordered the knife on a Sunday and received it only 4 days later on a Thursday.

[b]. The other side has the "One Ass To Kick" Logo,

I believe that logo is: "One Asterisk" = One Ass To Risk... wink.gif

Good review overall. CRKT is a great knife. I prefer a fine edge to the serrated though. Serrated are impossible to sharpen.

Now, I know someone will come back and say "They can be sharpened thusly...". Yes, they can, it's just a pain in the ass. Serrated blades are great for hacking when they're sharp, but IMO worthless when dull. I prefer a fine edge that can be easily and quickly sharpened.

That is all.

Not a bad knife at all, great pictures and review. A squad member of mine had one for a few years with extensive use until he decided to buy an assisted blade benchmade. They are definitely a pain in the ass to sharpen as Drucifier said, especially if you are in a survival environment. I try to avoid using it unless it's for fire-starting. I did see long ago a special compact sharpener for serrated blades to make it easier, but that all goes back to how much you are willing to spend.

Just a little update to those of you who are interested. I'm still using this same knife today and it's still holding up very well. It's a great all around blade to have despite it's size. Definitely worth the $60.
