Hey all,

I guess I'll try and do my part to keep the forum alive and active, as not much seems to be going on at the moment. I recently purchased Maxpedition's Rollypolly Extreme backpack in black from Amazon, with the intention of using it as some type of get home bag or such, as due to it's design it wouldn't work well as a BOB. For those of you who don't know, the Rollypolly is essentially a backpack with Three main compartments that can roll up (hence the name) into a very small package, about 6x6x5" folded. It features a velcro flap that keeps it folded, a belt loop, carry handle, and slots for MOLLE (speedsticks?), so there are plenty of ways to carry it folded, should you choose to do so. Anyways on the outside it has a large pocket with a divider, with velcro for patches or whatnot on the front, and a YKK zipper closure. Above this is a Smaller pocket, and the main compartment is actually held closed by the straps themselves, an interesting and unique design. It can supposedly hold up to a 3L Hydration bladder, and it has drainage grommets at the bottom of this compartment should it sweat or (hopefully not) leak. In addition, The shoulder straps have elastic bands for the hydration tube, and a sternum strap to help balance the weight. You can get it in OD, Black, "Digi" camo or Tan, but I opted for the inconspicuous black color. Sorry if it sounds like an advertisement, but I'm just trying to get a feel for how I could use the bag as a GHB and what your thoughts on this are. Ironically it's biggest feature is also its drawback, in that you can't keep it packed and ready to go if folded, so your options seem limited to either keeping stuff on hand and packing quickly if SHTF or keeping it packed in a location such as your car or office, using it to get home where you could hopefully grab a BOB or other gear and then you could consolidate, fold up the Rollypoly, and be on your way. I plan on adding pictures and doing a review in the near future, but I'm waiting for the phone I want to be available for Employee plans, and thus will have to wait a bit before taking any pics. In the mean time here's a link:

What are your guys' (and gals') thoughts on this? Can you think of a better or more efficient role than the one I described? Leave thoughts, ideas, and whatnot below. laugh.gif

Seems like it would be a nice pac to have. I'm not the most familiar with these kind of backpacks so I can't offer much insight. My view though has always been, even if it has slight imperfections or issues which might impact is praticality, it is better to have it then not use one at all.

While i prefer my bob to have some back support, this would make a great get home bag!
